Let's make it accesible

Giving an already existing app a redesign of the interface to accommodate and make accessible the functionality to a different demographic.

Movie theaters have been a common place of entertainment for generations but certain parts of the process have gotten more complicated over the years. This redesign was a way to help show what a reworking of an online ordering app would look like and how it would open a new set of possibilities for the older generation to experience.

The original app interface

The Issue

With this original interface, the dark background with the light text can make these movie and seat selection screen difficult to read.

This movie catalog was around the time of AMC's halloween showings, but it may not have been overly clear if a user has a difficult time clearly reading the title of this designated catalog over the movie covers.

The seating selection can be a pain for any demographic when purchasing movie seats on our phones. Making this aspect of the process as simple as possible while still retaining the necessary information in crucial.

Approach

This redesign had it's ups and downs. I was so focused on the original design that I initially struggled with adjusting the original design to be more user friendly towards my new demographic. I had tried out a few different styles and elements, but nothing seemed to really be working and I couldn’t get it to a place I liked.

Ultimately, I found that I was trying to hard to make it look playful and had started to disregard functionality and accessibility. Once I reassessed what I found working versus not working, I was able to come up with a design I was happy with.

Creating the persona was one of the most enjoyable aspect of the overall process. It gave me a chance to choose a demographic very separate from my own mind and skill set.
