An Interactive Digital Pet
The goal overall was to create an interactive experience that emulated the use of a Tamagotchi. I designed the character and developed a backstory to explain the circumstances of how this digital pet came into being. I didn't want to outcome to be too serious, so I focused on just allowing myself to have fun with the character and the interactions the user could have with him.
Process
I started with a bit of research for my character and development of the device that is to be used. Leaning into how silly I could make things, I chose to make the digital pet a snail but I had the freedom to make the backstory as interesting and ridiculous as I could. The freedom also applied to what the Tamagotchi was capable of and how the user would operate it.
In early stages of user testing, multiple people ran into similar issues, which gave me a good idea of what can be improved and what could be expanded on.
Modeling the tamagotchi character, the snail, and working out all the animations was honestly the part that took the longest overall.
